A NOURISHING TAURUS BREAKFAST
The more I learn about nutrition, the more I find compelling evidence for starting the day with a solid and protein-rich meal. It also makes a lot of sense. When do we need our energy the most? During the day, most likely, unless you are a night worker. If you sleep at night, that’s when the body rests and does its deep processing by separating what can be used and what to let go of. If we are in good health and feel ready to go in the morning, that is the natural time to lay the foundation for a long day of activity. According to the Chinese clock, which follows the energy as it travels through the different organs in the body, the time between 7 and 9 am is when the stomach has the most energy. That is when it can handle food most efficiently.
Between 5 and 7 am, the large intestine is at its peak, making it the natural time to rid oneself of yesterday’s deposits that were rendered not useful during the night, in other words, waste materials.
This fits right in with the glucose-goddess theories (see post), which state that the day needs to be started with a savory meal to prevent giving our body a glucose shock-start.
My newest and most delightful way of starting the day is like they do in Asia (also my favored kind of food style), namely with a bone broth soup with added minced meat from beef or lamb, and sometimes even with a couple of eggs poached in the soup. Of course, I add lots of fresh herbs like cilantro and mint. This keeps me full and energized for many hours and builds a stable and sustainable energy.
I either make my own bone broth soup (see post) or, when I don’t have that, I buy a good quality, organic, grass-fed animal sourced, ready-made freeze-dried bone-broth powder.
Ingredients:
- Bone broth/water plus a teaspoon of bone-broth powder
- Vegetables of choice, cut into fine pieces (always add some mushrooms for good flavor and some ginger)
- Green vegetables that quickly heat up and add flavor and texture
Instructions:
1. Cook the vegetables for a few minutes.
2. If desired, crack a couple of eggs carefully into the broth to be poached. In that case, let it cook for approximately three more minutes.
3. Pour the broth over the minced meat and the herbs.
4. Add good quality mineral salt for flavor and extra minerals.
Bon appétit!
